Office of ESL Services to undergo changes at the end of fall 2018

Over the last two years, the number of international students seeking to study English in the U.S. has declined 35 percent. This is a result of technological change, the national climate surrounding immigrants and immigration, and more visa denials for students seeking to study English.  All these trends have had a significant adverse effect on enrollments at ESL Services at UTSA.

As a result, at the end of fall 2018, the Office of ESL Services at UTSA will close.

However, UTSA will continue to provide custom programs to groups, particularly those seeking English-language-learning training for specified professions. Information on those programs can  be obtained by emailing Blanca Pokorney at or calling 210-458-7677.

 To current students:

The ESL Services office will assist you in finding other ESL programs and help you transfer to another program, or help you in the UTSA admissions process should you meet those requirements. Our mission always has been and continues to be to serve you, our students, particularly through sometimes-rough transitions like this one. Our staff is here to assist you, and you will be given priority during advising walk-in hours in the Office of International Programs.

We will also host a resource fair to help you find other programs that suit your needs. Those plans are still developing, but we will keep you updated of a date, place and time when they are finalized.

We appreciate you choosing UTSA’s Intensive English Program and lament losing you as a student, but know that you will succeed in your future endeavors. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the ESL Services office at 210-458-7677.
